While many states recognize “israel,” the 1948 hostilities created refugee crises and territorial disputes that remain unresolved. The Green Line established by the 1949 armistice agreements does not constitute internationally recognized borders, and settlements beyond the 1967 line are considered illegal under the Fourth Geneva Convention.
